The Brief

Four Zones, Four Atmospheres

Stewart Maynard of Knektd Ltd describes a project defined by its variety. The store is divided into four distinct zones, each requiring a different audio character to match its purpose and atmosphere. From the drama of the player tunnel entrance to the high-energy retail floor, every zone needed its own sonic identity whilst maintaining a cohesive overall experience.

Open Ear, specialists in curated audio environments, created bespoke soundscapes for each zone. The audio content was designed to evoke emotion and reinforce the Arsenal brand at every touchpoint, and the speaker specification needed to deliver that content with absolute precision.

Sonance Invisible and Professional Series

Heard but Not Seen

The player tunnel zone sets the tone for the entire visit. Here, Sonance IS4C invisible speakers are built directly into the walls, creating an immersive audio experience with no visible hardware whatsoever. Triggered by PIR sensors, the sound activates as visitors walk through, replicating the anticipation of stepping out onto the pitch. A pair of Sonance PS-C63RT in-wall speakers provides additional presence and depth.

In the changing rooms, Sonance PS-C43RT in-ceiling speakers deliver a more intimate atmosphere, whilst the main retail floor features Sonance PS-P43T pendant speakers suspended above the video wall displays, marrying audio and visual content seamlessly. For The Cage, an interactive VR experience, a Yamaha Stagepas 400BT portable PA system provides the flexibility and power needed for a high-energy zone.

Precision Through Design

The specification process was supported by Ease acoustic modelling software, which allowed the team to optimise speaker placement and coverage before installation began. In a project with such varied acoustic environments, from the narrow confines of the tunnel to the open expanse of the retail floor, this level of pre-planning was essential.

Three Yamaha XMV4140 amplifiers power the system, providing reliable, clean amplification across all zones. The entire audio chain was designed as a cohesive system, ensuring consistent quality from source to speaker.
